After You Return
This information was taken out of the
General Handbook* on pages 30-31.
Finishing Your Degree Requirements While Studying
Abroad
- Before you leave campus for your study abroad program,
ask for a degree audit at Degree Audit and Diploma Services. The
audit will tell you the remaining requirements you must fulfill
for graduation. Bring the degree audit with you to your program
site; it will help you to select your classes. You should also
meet with your Major Advisor before your departure to discuss
your selection of classes overseas and how they may or may not
work with your academic plan.
- You can get information on graduation at the Registrar's
Office.
- Your degree will be final after all of your course equivalents
and grades from abroad have been processed, you request a degree
audit, and the audit confirms that you fulfilled all requirements.
Your official graduation date will coincide with the UW-Madison
semester in which you completed your degree requirements. However,
your official graduation date may not appear on your transcript
until a later date, due to the delay in receiving grades from
abroad and processing course equivalencies.
- After your grades have been posted on your transcript, you should
contact the Degree Audit and Diploma Services office and ask to
be audited for graduation. This audit is a critical step in the
process of your degree being awarded. If you have not completed
all of your requirements, Degree Audit and Diploma Services will
notify you provided you have given them a current address. Please
contact Degree and Audit via E-mail
or via telephone at 608-262-3782. Also
note that degree
audits can also be ordered through My UW on the web.

608-262-9076 or 608-262-3956. You can also obtain information on
participation in a graduation ceremony via Internet at the Registrar's
Office.
If you are going to participate in graduation ceremonies and need
to order a cap and gown, you must send a fax to University of Wisconsin

Consult the Office of Degree Audit and Diploma Services, 123 Peterson
Building, 750 University Avenue, Madison, WI 53706, or call 608-262-3782,
about obtaining your diploma if you do not plan to return to Madison.
