AT A GLANCE

Graduate students who receive the Fulbright-Hays that is administered through the International Institute register in the UW Fulbright-Hays International Research program. You will work with IAP to receive credit for the work you do abroad. Dr. Erin Crawley in the International Fellowships Office can provide more information on fellowship applications.

Students have completed research in India, Laos, and China.

Getting to Your Program

You are responsible for arranging your own travel to your research site.

Visa

Students are responsible for obtaining their own visas for the time they are abroad. Fellow students should get advising from their fellowship sponsor.

Housing

You are responsible for arranging your own housing

Insurance

You will be enrolled in the UW System required health insurance through Cultural Insurance Services International (CISI) and the cost of the insurance coverage is included in program fees. A receipt for the insurance fee will be provided. Please contact your study abroad advisor for more information.

On-Site Support

You will provide IAP with an in-country contact that can assist in emergency situations abroad.

IAP will enroll you in a study abroad placeholder course while abroad. This keeps you enrolled as a Madison student. You do not need to register for a course while abroad. Most students receive dissertator credit. You will indicate what type of credit and grade you need when you apply. IAP will work with your faculty advisor to confirm your final grade at the end of your time abroad.

Program cost information includes program fees, as well as out-of-pocket expenses with notes to help explain costs. Program fees are estimated and can be adjusted at any time. Once accepted, you will receive a cost sheet that includes confirmed program fees and additional out-of-pocket expenses.



Sources of available funding for study abroad include scholarships, grants and loans. To increase your chances of receiving financial aid, International Academic Programs (IAP) recommends filling out your FAFSA to begin the financial planning process early.
