Study Abroad 101

This information session is the first step in planning for a successful study abroad experience! Students can chose to watch Study Abroad 101 online here or come in person. Live Study Abroad 101 sessions are held every day Monday-Friday, 2:30-3:00 p.m. in the Study Abroad Resource Center, 250 Bascom. No need to make an appointment, students can just drop-in or click to learn how to plan for study abroad!

Chat with a Peer Advisor

Do you have a quick question about study abroad? Then send an instant message to a peer advisor who is working in the Study Abroad Resource Center! Peer Advisors are available to chat every Tuesday from 1:00-3:00pm during the summer and Mondays and Thursdays from 1:00-3:00pm during the semester.

Search for a Program

With more than 150 study abroad programs, International Academic Programs (IAP) has opportunities that are suitable for all students. IAP study abroad programs are open to students from any school or college at UW-Madison and students can choose from a variety of durations including summer, semester, year-long, short-term, and winter intersession programs. Programs are offered in English as well as other languages. With all of these options, if students plan ahead, there is a program for everyone!

Academic Planning

Study abroad programs are offered to fit with many degree programs at UW-Madison. It is important, however, to plan ahead starting during a student’s first –year at UW-Madison. Here students will find helpful academic information specific to before they go, when they are abroad and when they return to UW-Madison.

Financial Resources

There are many potential sources of funding available for study abroad. However, it requires careful planning, research, and commitment. Study abroad funding is all about finding the best sources of financial assistance and not relying only on one source. Students must start early (typically before or at the same time they apply for a study abroad program).

Student Blogs

Follow along with UW-Madison students as they participate on an IAP program! These students post periodically during their study abroad program, sharing their stories and pictures for those interested. You can also interact with the students by commenting on their posts and asking them questions!

Apply for IAP study abroad programs online! Check the individual program pages for application deadlines as program deadlines can range from a semester to a year in advance. Keep in mind that students can apply for only one study abroad program per duration (e.g., spring semester, summer, etc.).
