Have you always wanted to learn French in North Africa? Morocco, sometimes referred to as Europe's Gateway to Africa, is a unique place to learn French and experience a vibrant mix of Arabic and European cultures.

This 4-week summer program in Rabat, Morocco, combines intensive study of French language along with the exploration of the political, cultural, and historical perspectives of Morocco, North Africa, and the French language and culture presence in this country and region. In addition to daily French language classes, you will have the opportunity to explore contemporary Moroccan society and culture through organized excursions both in Rabat as well as other Moroccan cities.

Through a combination of coursework, fieldwork, homestays, community engagement, clubs, and excursions, you’ll be able to experience Morocco like no tourist can by expanding and enhancing your views on the history, arts, literature, politics, gender dynamics, race, and ethnicity in Morocco.

This program is led by UW-Madison Associate Professor of French, Nevine El Nossery.
