You must apply through International Internship Program. Accepted students' information will be transferred to IAP for enrollment, insurance, and other details. The application is typically available in February for the upcoming summer and selections are made by late March.

Take advantage of this valuable opportunity to hold an internship with Central Japan Railway Company, based in Tokyo. JR Central, as it is commonly known, will develop training schedules for interns covering fieldwork, technologies, and management practices for students from a number of academic fields. The internship program is particularly well suited for students in business and engineering, though anyone with an interest in Japanese business and high speed rail is encouraged to apply.  Students do not need to have prior knowledge of Japanese to apply, though knowledge of the language would be an asset.

This special opportunity allows students to work approximately two months as an intern with JR Central, a sophisticated Japanese company. JR Central will accept up to three interns each year who will have the opportunity to rotate throught a wide range of areas of the business.  This would be an excellent opportunity for students studying in Asia who would like to extend their experience in that region, or for those who would like the change to gain an understanding of a high level Japanese company.

The selected students will take an online 3-credit internship course hosted by UW-Madison.
